Stories That Teachers Tell: Exploring Culturally Responsive Science Teaching

In this paper, we explore the stories teachers tell as they study and grapple with culturally responsive education in their science classrooms. This qualitative case focuses primarily on “Stories from Field”, a conversational routine at each professional learning group meeting where shared observations, thoughts, insights about classroom, instruction, school settings context of education. We found that teachers’ first year surfaced themes navigating systemic constraints supports, connecting through science, sensemaking developing analyzing strategies for teaching. helped to shine light critical aspect our work exploring what might look like classrooms tell. Our findings suggest storytelling is rich, descriptive vehicle exploration amongst an underused resource studying education, especially science.
